There is no denying that Alexander McQueen is a genius. I really admire him but I am not entirely convinced with his 2010 Resort Collection. There are some really strong pieces but the collection also seems aesthetically inconsistent and somewhat daggy at times. Too harsh? No disrespect intended maybe I am just not getting his vision.
I feel there are real incongruities between the strong geometric pieces such as the striped suits or the block colour body con dresses and then the painted splattered silk dresses and jeans. Also the yellow dress with black lace overlay truly is a divine creation but seems completely random against the remaining pieces.
It doesn't seem cohesive enough for a resort collection. With such small collections there isn't enough room to be so varied and so it seems almost junior for him this time round. Ahhh that statement will get me in trouble..
So, moving on, I love love love the blue and red striped suit. The tailoring of the blazer is superb. It is corseted throughout the waist giving it a severe feminine curve and yet the shoulders, the stripes andthe bottom of the jacket are definitely masculine in their nature and strength. This is an example of the perfect mix of masculine and feminine. Teamed with matching skin tight leggings the shape makes a polished and powerful image.
I also love the bold printed leggings in candy primary colours. They give off an Aztec vibe which never hurt anyone in my opinion. Matched back with the divine royal blue ankle boots also from the collection that is one hell of a good looking bottom half.
If worried about your top half snap up the steel blue and grey blazer (look 12 on style.com) it is positively scrumptious.
